5 GIFTS OF METICULOUSNESS TO PROSPER YOUR VOCATION
Table of Contents
Back then in our secondary school days, we had this English Language teacher who was so strict his baptismal name was deftly stepped aside by students and replaced with Mr. Strict Strict (1st + last name).
There was style to his "strictness", though. That's because he was passionate about details. Nothing escaped the attention of Mr. Strict.
He demanded perfection. If ever there existed a bubble buster, he would be the one.
No matter how brilliant you were, no matter how sure you were that you had answered his questions at your best, he would always find some fault in your paper somehow.
It could be about how bad your writing was.
It could be the arrangement of your paragraphs, or faulty spacing between lines, or too many cancellations, or a detail overlooked somewhere somehow, and so on to no end.
With Mr. Strict, something would always be wrong.
However, to give him his dues, once in a while a kid or two would get his pass mark but that usually happens like a bolt from the blues.
Fast-forward the tape please.
I was an adult and in business before I got to unravel the mystery behind that guy's behaviour, and then I realized that what we had tagged "strict" was actually a misnomer for "meticulous".
In the course of daily transactions and the struggle to survive, I began to value the principles and habits we had mocked ad students.
I then realized it pays to give close attention to details. If you are meticulous that suggests you always do things with great care, that you make sure all your "I's" are dotted and your "t's" crossed unfailingly, and that every detail is carefully considered and without errors.
Being meticulous is essential for growth in all aspects of life, especially in work environments where error in presentation and faulty work habits can be detrimental to the growth of the company. That scenario could we'll play out in loss of credibility, faulty book-keeping and problems associated with it, or customer displeasure, etc.
It doesn't matter whether it's personal business, association, public service, organization or other work environments; being meticulous is an asset for development and growth.
